Map #64 – Old god tomb

‘Uh sir… we found the tomb… Just like you said, but… Uh there’s… um… no gold… Sure,  Let’s check deeper. But between me and you… some of the lads are feeling a little skittish so maybe we shou… Yes, there are exactly nine of us… Why is tha… …of course they’ll join us. You’re the boss.’

-Chief engineer Coppermill, excavator for hire

Unwitting(?) excavators have breached in a tomb that houses the remains of one of the most powerful prophets of beings from beyond and their four disciples. The magic circle at the middle of the main room could be used to bring them back or perhaps it is instead used to lock them away. The other hallways are filled with remains of ancient worshipers, cultists and sacrifices and most surfaces are filled with unintelligible writings and diagrams.

Map #62 – Dwarven Bridge

Look, I don’t like this any more than you do, but this is the only way to the chamber.’

It’s been quite a while since the last post, but there’s still one map in this decade. I’ve continued experimenting with fully digital process and the end result is not too bad!

Deep in an ancient mine, there is a mostly standing bridge where the magical lighting still works. Is the damage only due to time or is there something lurking in the water? Any residue from the ley crystals surely has no effect on the local fauna…

There’s also a version with a grid, a lighter one and the lighter one with grid.

I also have  a tip-jar at ko-fi, If you’d like to check that.

Map #55 – Temple of the Lake

Even with their temple in ruins and names forgotten, the spirits of the lake still linger. And they remember. As do the rangers who still guard the temple. Offerings are welcome, but visitors would be wise not to anger either of them.

It’s been a very long time without a map. Here’s one featuring ruined temple and narrow cliffs. There are platforms and makeshift bridges used by the guardians of the temple. They could also just be built by locals who still use temple.

There’s also a version without the borders and one with just the inks. This one was drawn with ink and colored in procreate.

Map #54 – Old Guard Tower

It’s been quite a while. I’ve been getting to know new tools (ipad + procreate) and also finishing the map too quite some time.

The map shows a simple, partially destroyed guard tower (with a basement) along a coast. I had a couple of related ideas on how to use this. First, the players could have learned that a valuable shipment is going to be transported to the shore. How they choose to intercept it is up to them. Or perhaps the players themselves are expecting something valuable, but the guard tower is occupied by hostile (?) forces.

There is a day version, a night version and one with just the drawing.

Map #45 – Tower ruins

Another attempt at coloring. I’m still not sure if I know what I’m doing, but some parts were fine, and some parts I’m not maximally happy with.

The map itself is a ruined watch tower. It’s been abandoned for a long time and partially overtaken by water, but recently, it has found new inhabitants.

Here’s a version without the grid and here’s one without any color.

Map #37 – Narrow Pass

Here’s a small map featuring fortifications on a narrow mountain pass. The dwarves (?) put up a valiant fight defending a remote pass but ultimately, the orcish (?) horde proved too powerful.

The players could pass by just hours after the defenders were defeated encountering a couple of attackers left behind. Another way might be to have the players actually defend against the attack

There’s also a black and white version available.

Map #36 – Destroyed temple

Time for a quick OSR-ish map. The temple of N’Xroth was destroyed decades ago, but locals claim that evil spirits still linger. Perhaps the purge wasn’t as thorough as the Order of the Crimson Dawn would have hoped.

If you prefer, here is version without the grid.

As usual, this map is free (see below), but if you want to tip me, check out my patreon page.

Map #28 – Castle ruins 1

I actually found this map on my hard drive where it had been sitting for a couple of months waiting for the final touches. This was also a quick one and I wanted to get it online without any more delays. Possible current occupants might be bandits, orcs (or equivalents), some undead creatures or even larger beasts (a manticore?).

This might be the last map of this year, but operations will continue in January.

A version without the grid is available here.

Map #25 – Ruined keep

Here’s a quick map that I just doodled together. It’s very similar to an earlier one, but I hope you like it nevertheless. It’s actually been available via patreon for a while, but it took some time to get this blog up to date.

This is again old ruins in the woods. This time, orcs or bandits have made a semi-permanent camp on a the ruins and the cellar and caves underneath. There is also a long tunnel leading outside surfacing a few hundred meters from the castle.

A good use for this one would be to have this be a ‘random encounter’ but then have an adventure hook in the dungeon ready to be followed. For example, the current occupants haven’t yet found the secret door behind the chapel in the dungeon. It could be that the original ward of the castle has locked themselves in guarding something – perhaps information or an important item. This type of encounter would suit a hexcrawl campaign quite well.

Also, the grid is permanent this time (I wanted to try how it would look).

If you feel like contributing to my mapmaking efforts (and getting a couple of perks!) I do have a patreon page. Check it out!
